- My books have been translated into more than 20 different languages.
- I was a judge for the 2010 Costa Book Awards.
- In 2009 I was awarded an honorary doctorate, a Doctor of Letters, by the University of Teesside.
- I have been an official spokesperson for World Book Day since 2006.
- For World Book Day 2008 I attended an event at 10 Downing Street as part of a national campaign to get people reading. My award winning Quick Read book, Happy Families was released that day.
